Philosophy of Education

Most importantly I believe that First Grade is the most important in your child’s educational career.  Feelings of loving to read, experiencing the world through Science and Mathematics truly come alive in an interactive way.  I believe all students can learn; even though it may be in a variety of ways.  Therefore, I will present educational information by sharing differentiating learning styles so learning can take place for all.  Your child may experience learning through:  oral instruction, hands on activities, experiments, research, songs, poetry and more.    It is my goal to create a productive learning environment beginning with good classroom management.   I will strive to create an environment of mutual respect and acceptance so; each child feels safe and secure and can reach their educational potential every day.  My overall goal is to help mold good citizens by living by the Myatt Rules:  We are respectful, responsible and here and ready.

About Your teacher

Welcome to First Grade.  My name is Mrs. Weinheimer, and I will be your child’s first grade Math and Science teacher. I have been married 25 years and have 3 children.    I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary studies. This will be my twentieth year to teach children and my seventh at Myatt Elementary.  Throughout my teaching tenure, I have taught Kindergarten, 4th grade Reading and Writing, and 6th, 7th and 8th grade Reading. I am so very excited about this school year.    This year will be full of daily growth and learning.  I expect a lot out of my students, but cherish and love each one of them.   Again, I look forward to having your child in my class.  As the year begins I will be calling on your help with homework and support.  By working together we can make this the best year ever for you and your child.  I am looking forward to doing my part to help make it a great year of education.

Homework

Your child will receive a Homework Folder, it will be sent home at the beginning of every week.  Have your child complete the assignments and return the folder on Friday.  If your child does not bring back his/her homework on Friday, he/she will have to complete it during recess.  Your child needs to read to you daily.  Each week Mrs. Mican  will send home a reader for your child to read.  Study the list of Sight Words, Spelling Words every week.  Your child will be assessed on the Sight Words and Spelling Words every Friday.

The main goal in my classroom is to create a positive safe environment in which each child can learn and grow.  My behavior management procedures are designed to foster self-discipline, good study habits, and respect for self and others, as well as an enjoyable learning environment.
